Volkswagen unveils new Tiguan
Wednesday, 02 Apr 2008 09:05
The 2.0-litre TDi 170 PS Tiguan
A new 2-litre TDi 170 PS common rail diesel engine-powered Tiguan has been released for ordering by Volkswagen.
The car is described by the manufacturer as being the most powerful of its range yet, with greater torque than a Golf GTi combined with the efficiency, lower emissions and refinement expected from a modern diesel.
The new engine is capable of producing a maximum of 258 lbs/ft of torque, using a six-speed manual gearbox. It will route drive through an advanced 4Motion system, diverting up to 100 per cent of drive to any wheel, depending on the traction available.
The car is capable of returning 40.4 mpg on the combined cycle, with emissions of 185 g/km of carbon dioxide. Acceleration times have been measured at 0-62mph in 8.9 seconds, with a maximum speed of 125 mph.
Six airbags, electronic stabilisation programme (ESP), climatic semi-automatic air conditioning and an RCD 510 touchscreen entertainment system with six-disc CD autochanger all come with the new model.
Prices for the 2-litre TDi 170 PS start at £22,670 for the SE version, rising to £23,370 for the Sport model.
