Volkswagen launches new compact 4X4
After its unveiling at the Los Angeles motor show in November last year, the new Volkswagen compact 4x4 is available to order in the UK for the first time today.
The Tiguan marks the German company's entry to a new market segment and will be released in February of next year.
A final model was on display at the Frankfurt motor show last month, only weeks prior to its European release.
The entry level model will be priced at £19,370, rising to £ 23,300 for the top-of-the-range Tiguan.
All Tiguans come with
4Motion
, Volkswagen's intelligent four-wheel drive system. The front axle of the vehicle adopts a strut style system, attached a lightweight aluminium frame with electromechanical power steering.
A four-link rear axle also lends the Tiguan the dynamic versatility needed for off-road use.
The range will be split into four trim levels; S, SE, Sport and Escape.
The first three of these have front end dynamics suited to on-road use and an 18 degree angle of approach, while the final level is suitable for off-road applications.
The Tiguan Escape has a 28 degree angle of approach, a compass, protective bars on the front radiator and hill descent control.
