Saab wins 'Best Concept' at Geneva

The Saab 9-X BioHybrid has won the prestigious 'Best Concept' award at the Geneva Motor Show.

This is the second such award for the company, with the Saab Aero X concept receiving AutoWeek's 'Best in Show' honour at its debut in Geneva two years ago.

"We are thrilled our work has been recognised with this prestigious award," said Anthony Lo, director of advanced design at General Motors (GM) Europe, the owners of Saab.

Speaking on behalf of the company's design plant in Sweden, Mr Lo also gave some details of the upcoming vehicle.

"The 9-X BioHybrid is a vision of what a future compact car from Saab could look like," he explained.

"It is designed to reflect the priorities of youthful customers who seek progressive looks, responsible performance and high-tech communications, all in a sporty, fun-to-drive package."

The car comes fitted with a 200 hp (147 kW), 1.4-litre BioPower turbo engine, and is backed by GM's next-generation hybrid system.

During the design process it has a projected combined cycle CO2 emissions of just 105 g/km on E85 (85 per cent ethanol) fuel.
