Land Rover records highest ever monthly sales
The troubled Land Rover brand, which has been put up for sale by its parent company Ford, has recorded its highest ever monthly sales figures.
The brand sold nearly 26,000 cars around the world in September, up 34 per cent on September 2006.
This represents the best performance for the company in 714 months, nearly 60 years, of business.
Land Rover sold 25,922 vehicles in September, bringing the total to 167,400 for 2007 so far.
Again this represents a rise, up 15.7 per cent on last year.
"This is a great achievement and it’s always satisfying to break past records," commented Land Rover’s managing director, Phil Popham.
"We can now approach our 60th anniversary next year with confidence. I want to see the business move forwards responsibly, profitably and in a sustainable manner."
China and Russia have been demonstrating a strong appetite for Land Rover, with sales up by 249 and 105 per cent respectively in these markets.
Freelander 2 and the fuel efficient diesel powered Range Rover have both been popular models around the world for Land Rover.
"We’re on track with plans to fit technology to improve the environmental performance of our cars and we've given a hint of new, exciting design," continued Mr Popham.
"A great future is shaping up."
