Land Rover celebrates 60th birthday
Land Rover has unveiled a stylish new model to help the company celebrate its 60th birthday during 2008.

While the 25,000 Defenders are produced each year are largely used by farmers, foresters and other industries, the new Land Rover Defender SVX has been developed with urban consumers in mind.

The vehicle has sleek black paintwork with a silver finish, unique Defender and SVX badges, clear-lens headlamps and tubular side-steps.

Also included are five-spoke alloy wheels, a reinforced aluminium front undershield and clear LED rear lights.

"The Defender SVX looks very different to a spartan 1948 Land Rover, but it's still an essentially practical vehicle that will enable you to go almost anywhere," said Phil Popham, Land Rover's managing director.

"The new and much more refined diesel engine introduced earlier this year has been a great success with customers, and for those who want the ultimate Defender, we thought that the SVX special edition would be an ideal way to mark Land Rover's 60th birthday."

There will be two types of the new model; a soft-top and a station wagon.

Recaro front seats, distinctive alloy gear knobs and Garmin satellite navigation systems are also included on both versions, along with a unique and individually numbered plaque, eg 001.

A total of 200 of the vehicles will be produced during 2008, with prices and delivery dates to be announced at a later date.
