BMW is committed to further reducing its range emissions, with an NOx storage capability within a catalytic converter being offered on certain models in the near future.
BMW has been confirmed as producing the 'cleanest' premium cars in the United Kingdom, following independent, industry-wide research in CO2 emissions.

A report, published by cleangreencars.co.uk, into average total model range emissions for car manufacturers reveals, from January 2008 to June 2008, BMW recorded an average of 161.64 g/km of CO2 emissions.

By comparison, Audi and Mercedes were found to have averages of 177.36 g/km and 192.85 g/km respectively. Lexus managed an average of 194.85 g/km with its hybrid-based model line-up.

Jaguar topped 200 g/km, while Porsche recorded alarmingly high rates of 275.64 g/km.

The figures show BMW has improved its average emissions by 11.34 per cent, the greatest amount by any premium manufacturer.

Audi improved by 5.78 per cent, Mercedes by 4.13 per cent, Lexus by 2.16 per cent and Jaguar by 2.04 per cent, while Porsche actually increased its average model range emissions by 0.63 per cent.

Jay Nagley, publisher of cleangreencars.co.uk, said: "The BMW and MINI model ranges have seen very significant improvements when it comes to CO2 emissions. The BMW Group should be praised for its leading stance in this area. It’s proof that driving dynamics can go hand-in-hand with a green conscience."

BMW has stressed it will continue to work on improving its emissions performance, with NOx storage capability within a catalytic converter being offered on certain models in the near future.
