Audi reveals a new A3 generation
Tuesday, 29 Apr 2008 09:31
The Audi A3 has received a technological facelift for the summer
Audi have revealed details of the A3 range's facelift, unveiling the new technological additions and changes that have been made.
First of all, the exterior has been updated, with new visual details for the three-door A3 and A3 Sportback. The bonnet lid and front wings are more sculpted, with the bumper and large single-frame radiator grille having been updated to enhance road presence.
New headlamps incorporate a curved trim element, known as the "wing", which, according to the press release, "accentuates their technical perfection". The S line features xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights designed to provide a distinctive (optional) feature.
New exterior mirrors come with integral indicators, while new door handles and an alloy wheel range add to the side profile somewhat.
To the rear of the vehicle, a modified bumper and new tail lights create a clean design. The Sportback now has fibre optic rods arranged in a flat, continuous strip, creating an impressive visual effect in the dark. The three-door A3 has a modified tailgate with a new light edge.
The changes continue when venturing into the interior of the vehicle too. Aluminium design elements on the air vents, light switches and centre console accentuate the character of the A3 and the Sportback.
The SE, Sport and S lines have driver information systems, which display the time, date and distance in a clear, high-resolution white font. These systems come as standard on said lines, with a three-spoke leather steering wheel on the Sport and S ranges having new aluminium trim.
Split folding rear seats, as standard, offer a lot of space for the A3's luggage bay, the roomiest in its class apparently. As part of the wider option range, roof rails and a panoramic sunroof are available for the A3 Sportback.
Those interested in engines have seven to choose from with the new generation of A3s. Four petrol and three diesel versions can be selected from, five of them pioneering four-cylinder direct injection units with turbocharging.
Both two-litre diesel engines have been extensively re-engineered - a new common rail injection system now assures ultra-refined running, efficiency and excellent acoustics.
The new generation of Audi A3s are set to arrive on the UK market in the summer.
