Audi R8 V12 TDI unveiled in Detroit
A concept version of the eagerly awaited Audi R8 V12 TDI has been put on display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The diesel monster is an enhanced version of the R8 – released only last year – and is closely modelled on the R10 racing car - which won the 24 hour race around the curves of Le Mans.

The enhanced version comes with a six-litre twin-turbocharged common-rail injection V12 engine and features wider and more muscular proportions – with emphasised wheel arches and larger air vents.

It will be able to sprint from a standing start to 62 mph is just 4.2 seconds and will be capable of over 186 mph at top speed.

However, in these ecologically minded times, Audi was also keen to stress the cleanliness of the new car.

The R8 V12 is fitted with a new catalytic converter as well as an additional tank filled with a solution known as AdBlue.

According to Audi this revolutionary solution is released into the exhaust system where, due to the hot exhaust gases, the solution breaks down to form ammonia, which is capable of splitting the nitric oxides into nitrogen and water.
