Citroen wants foothold in Russian market
Wednesday, 27 Aug 2008 09:16
The Berlingo Multispace was also debuted at the Moscow Motor Show this week
Citroen has made a strong commitment to the Russian vehicle market, debuting its new C4 hatchback and coupe models at the Moscow Motor Show.
The company sees the country as an important, priority market and is looking to grow its presence there in the coming years.
Citroen predicts a doubling of sales in the second half of this year, with a further doubling in 2009.
This increase will mainly be driven by the arrival of a new mid-range saloon, Citroen believes.
Recently, the company has introduced the C-Crosser SUV and the new C5 to the Russian market, while the new Berlingo Multispace has also made its debut at the Moscow Motor Show.
The potential importance of the rapidly growing Russian vehicle market is underlined by the fact sales increased by 57 per cent in 2007.
PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation recently started building a shared plant at Kaluga dedicated to Citroen C4 and C-Crosser SUV vehicle types, which represent a majority share of the Russian market.
Currently the sixth largest global market, it has been predicted that Russia could even overtake Germany as Europe’s biggest in the next year.
