Lexus SUV sales buck trend
Tuesday, 12 Aug 2008 16:25
The RX 400h SUV is in a lower tax band than its rivals, thanks to its hybrid engine
According to Lexus, the sales of its luxury RX 400h SUV have been going up, despite the general slump across the industry.
Sales were up by nearly 28 per cent in July, compared to the same month in 2007.
This growth is despite the dismal fortunes of rival brands, which suffered a sharp decline of 30 per cent in SUV sales over the same period.
New registrations for the more famous brand names tumbled by as much as 50 per cent.
Lexus cites the hybrid engine that powers the RX 400h as being the major selling point, earning it a lower tax rating.
"In what is a tough market overall, this gives our Lexus Centres a great advantage in being able to offer the type of car customers want, but without the penalties in running costs they would incur with models from rival brands," a spokesperson for Lexus said.
