RAC will pay M6 toll for thousands of motorists

Vicki Butler-Henderson has teamed up with RAC to give motorists something to smile about this bank holiday weekend
The RAC will be paying the M6 toll for 3,000 cars over the bank holiday weekend.
The initiative, supported by Fifth Gear presenter Vicky Butler-Henderson, will see 1,000 motorists getting off toll free from spending £4.70 to use the road.
Over the weekend, from May 23rd to May 25th, all drivers heading north and south on the main M6 toll could be randomly selected by staff to have their toll paid for by the RAC.
Vicki Butler-Henderson, said: "I've never heard of a motoring organisation doing anything like this before so I was very keen to get on board with RAC.
"Whilst getting away for the weekend can be a real treat, the stress of the journey and the costs incurred can put a dampener on driving, so RAC's gesture will certainly be a pleasant surprise for motorists this Bank Holiday weekend."
This coming Bank holiday is set to be one of the busiest this year, the RAC predicts, as half term coincides with the public holiday. Free spot checks will also be provided at Norton Canes services, and a 20 per cent discount on breakdown cover.
Saj Arshad, director of RAC sales and marketing, added: "RAC is passionate about getting people moving and we wanted to do something unique and cost-cutting for motorists this bank holiday, and it was great that the M6 Toll were really keen to partner with us on this initiative. As the driving people, it seems fitting that we can help reduce motorists' bank holiday costs and generally bring some cheer to the journey, as well as easing congestion on one of the UK's busiest roads."
Totallymotor interviewed TV's favourite 'motorchick', Vicky Butler-Henderson, who is supporting the RAC's campaign:
TM: What motors do you currently own?
VB-H: I currently have a Volkswagen GTI and a motorbike.
TM: What would you say has been your career highlight?
VB-H: Definitely driving a Lamborghini Diablo GT 1999, they only made 80! That was definitely a highlight.
TM: What are your views on the potential capping of Formula One budgets?
VB-H: I've been thinking a lot about it. I appreciate the fact that costs need to be kept an eye on, but if you relate it to football say, they wouldn't put a cap on football. To cap teams at £40 million when Ferrari for example spend four or five times that, well it's just not good for the front running teams.
TM: Hamilton or Button?
VB-H: Hamilton was just fantastic last year. He was in the best car at that time and I am so pleased for him. He's caused a wonderful buzz for the whole motor industry, and now with Button at the top too it's just great for British motor sport. I think if Button had come in and won on his first season he'd have had the same reception as Hamilton, but Lewis was in the right car at the right time. Button's a cracking lad, he's always smiling!
