Rimac Concept One

The all-electric Rimac Concept One uses battery power to make the equivalent of 1,088bhp. That's juicy!

Coming to London in September, the Rimac Concept One, an "electric hypercar" set to make its UK debut at Salon Privé. It'll be on show from September 5-7 at London's Syon Park.

Proving that not all electric cars are small, kooky or milk float-slow, the Rimac Concept One is a very special limited edition electric car with the equivalent of 1,088bhp. Yep. 1,088 horses. It's all thanks to a 92-kW battery. Only 88 will be made and they'll each cost $1 million or £638,880 on today's exchange rate.

As well as the eye-popping power, this sparky beast will do 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds, has a top speed of 190mph and a very impressive range of 373 miles - that makes the sub-100 mile range of many of the electric cars on the market now look a little anxiety-inducing. Kerb weight is a relatively light 1,850kg. There are four electric motors, one to power each wheel. Rimac calls this "All-Wheel Torque Vectoring".

Rimac's CEO is 24-year-old Croation Mate Rimac and he sums up the Concept One thus: "What we have here is a fully-fledged hypercar that is as powerful as a Bugatti, as stylish as a Ferrari, and as luxurious as a Mercedes, all while managing to forsake even the tiniest sip of gasoline."

Now if the more mainstream electric car makers can look towards a 373-mile range, we may have zero-emissions winners all round.
