Twisted but not bitter: Fab new Defenders

Twisted Land Rover Defender

The Land Rover Defender, modified by Twisted. This dune-basher looks bad ass!

The Land Rover Defender is a trusty workhorse, a rugged off-roader and a favourite of none other than the Queen. But whether the Queen will be seen in a Twisted Defender is another matter entirely.

Still, the Queen is well-known for being the very model of discretion and the people at Twisted, Defender enhancement specialists, promise that their gussied-up Defenders are "discreetly transformed". These transformed off-roaders will be on display this month - June 21-24, to be precise - at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.

Based in Thirsk, Twisted's staff are familiar with wild territory and at the moment, they have 30 models in build. Some have been stripped back to the bare bones for back-to-basics off-road antics while others have been kitted out to the max with luxury kit galore. The super-enhanced models can fetch double the dealership price.

Charles Fawcett, Twisted's MD, says that most Defenders they modify are "discreet on the outside" but come with "perhaps a few exterior-fitting upgrades and privacy glass hinting at the quality standards on the inside."

With that privacy glass and plush touches, Charles could well be opening the order books to the Queen in Edinburgh if she is in the market for a new set of wheels for tooling around Balmoral.
