Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Roadster

The new Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Roadster is priced to sell. Well, kind of!

Prices have been announced for the new Mercedes SL-Class Roadster, which we have already waxed lyrical on in anticipation of its arrival on British shores. In news that is about as shocking as "Kardashian has brief marriage", the starting OTR price for this stunner from Stuttgart is £72,495.

Of course there is plenty of awesome car for that kind of money - the entry level version has a 3.5-litre 306bhp V6 engine and advanced aluminium construction to give it a 140kg weight loss. The engine is a BlueDIRECT which offers fuel combined economy of 37.7mpg and emissions of 176g/km, which is pretty respectable for a car that an also go form 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph.

There is much to love about the standard specs - the entry level model will give you safety kit such as Pre-safe, Attention Assist and Active Bonnet, there are adaptive bi-xenon headlights, heated, adaptive wipers, COMAND Online with media interface, leather sports seats and 18-inch, five-spoke light alloy wheels.

The SL 500 is priced from £83,445. The 4.7-litre BlueDIRECT V8 engine offers 435bhp, a 0-62mph sprint of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. Combined fuel economy on this one is at 30.7mpg, a 26% improvement on the last model and CO2 emissions are at 214g/km. Still, if you can afford to drop more than £80,000 on a car, you're probably not too bothered about the cost of the congestion charge.

Both models are arriving in the UK next month with the SL 63 AMG and SL 65 AMG coming later this year.
