Yank tank

BCA car auctions in Nottingham have been importing some big 'n' tidy Yank tanks for your delectation

If none of the new cars are floating your automotive boat right now, perhaps you want to consider something a little more preloved instead. And we mean preloved in a good way. Every month at BCA Nottingham, there will be a sale of American classic muscle cars via live online auction. The first sale will take place on June 21. You can log on here: www.british-car-auctions.co.uk at 9am to see what's on offer and bidding will start at midday.

The US has been scoured far and wide for fine examples of all-American motoring muscle so that British motorists have a sporting chance to get about in something a bit more exciting than whatever the Arthur Daly type has to offer at the car yard up the road.

There will be eight cars in the first auction, all of which have been restored, registered in the UK and have 12 months MOT. On July 19, another 16 cars will be up for sale and on August 16, BCA is looking to sell off 24 motoring icons from across the pond.

So what's on offer at the first sale? There are three Chevrolet Corvettes, two Pontiac GTOs, one Chevy Camaro, one Pontiac Firebird and a rare Plymouth GTX. All cars date between 1963 and 1970.

How about a few more details? Well, since you asked, the 340bhp 1963 Corvette hardtop is white with a black interior and it has only ever done 46,000 miles. The second Corvette on offer at the inaugural sale is a recently restored 1969 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Convertible. It is capable of producing 350bhp and it did 81,000 miles before being restored in gold.

Coming to you from 1970 is the Pontiac GTO Ram Air III Coupe, one of just 3,054 built. It's in original condition, it has had a full frame-on restoration, new interior and paint job completed 1,000 miles ago.

There are two other perfect Pontiacs on offer. How about a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible 335hp Automatic? It has only ever had two owners, it is gold in colour with a parchment-coloured interior and a white power roof. All the mod cons! And for the romantics, the centre console features a ‘His and Hers’ gear shifter. The other Pontiac is none other than a 265bhp 1969 Pontiac Firebird Automatic. This one is also gold, has 77,000 miles on the clock and a black interior.

Remember the summer of '69 or is that just Bryan Adams? Whatever the case, the rare Plymouth GTX 440 Coupe comes from that very year, pumps out 375bhp and it's all original apart from a new engine block installed in the 70s. It's done out in Platinum Silver with dark grey stripes, an ace black vinyl roof and black leather interior. Lust!

Or if the new Camaros from the Transformers movie don't do it for you, there's a 1967 Camaro in red with a black interior. It has Rally Wheels and Red Line Tyres and it has only done 22,000 miles with the restoration done 1,200 miles ago. It also comes with the original M13 HD three-speed transmission.

We may need a lie-down after contemplating such a line-up of automotive awesomeness. Do we dare log on come June 21 and fill the TotallyMotor garage with a few slices of genuine Americana?
