2012 Mercedes M-Class

The new Mercedes M-Class goes true-blue-eco in the engine department for 2012 with eco-focused diesel engines with the latest green tech

A special edition of the Mercedes ML is open for ordering now. The Special Editions of the ML will be available with either the 250 BlueTEC or 350 BlueTEC engines, Merc's advanced turbo-diesel engines. Along with the stop-start function and the efficient seven-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox.

These engines are all part of Mercedes' Blue EFFICIENCY measures (and, my, how the marketing department loves those capital letters in Stuttgart) which meet the Euro 6 requirements - these latest rules and regs are not due to come into effect until 2014.

This means there's an AdBlue aqueous urea injection into the exhaust gas stream - in short, this helps with emissions. The four-cylinder ML 250 BlueTEC offers 204 bhp and 369lb-ft of torque and has combined fuel consumption of 44.8 mpg and CO2 emissions from 165 g/km. Meanwhile, the V6-engined ML 350 BlueTEC offers 258bhp, 457lb-ft of torque, combined fuel economy of 39.2 mpg and CO2 emissions of 189 g/km. The ML 350 also comes with permanent intelligent all-wheel drive with an off-road switch.

As well as offering pretty decent green credentials for an SUV, there's also some decent kit such as a multi-function four-spoke Nappa leather steering wheel, electric front seats, four-way lumbar adjustment for the driver, an Audi 20 radio/CD system with a 5.8-inch colour display, sat-nav, Bluetooth and a USB port. Nineteen-inch alloy wheels are a no-cost option and twin five-spoke 20-inch wheel are on offer for £630. The myriad of Merc

Both models have a few nice exterior touches too including aluminium-finish running boards with rubber studs, chrome underguards in the front and rear bumpers and LED daytime running lights.

The ML 250 is priced at £43,325 OTR and the ML 350 is priced at £46,335 OTR. The COMAND Online internet connectivity package is available for £750, a saving of £1,380. Diamond White paint is available for an extra £815, wood finishes are priced between £210 and £380 and a full leather interior will set you back £1,305.
