With an idea on a par for pure genius with unrestricting rally cars to the point of turbo-takeoff back in the 80s; a new event, the Michelin Rallye Groupe B, is once again unleashing the Group B beasts on the English countryside.
Sponsored by rally-lovers Michelin and surely the loudest, most petrol-pumping event we’ve seen in the UK for sometime; it will be held over the bank holiday weekend of 25th and 26th August on the roads of Cheshire and North Staffordshire. There will also be swanky-sounding Special Stages in the grounds of castles and stately homes, while service will be held at the Oulton Park race circuit. And I personally cannot wait!
The event, in partnership with Rallying with Group B, is set to relive the big-bhp stages of the RAC Rallies of the 1980s and will be run as a National B Event under the General Regulation of the UK Motor Sports Association. More info for participants and spectators alike can be found at: www.rallyegroupeb.com, as and when it’s available. But the good news is that some 60 fire-breathing rally warriors are already signed up to the event.
Steve Dolby, Michelin Product Marketing Manager, comments: “Michelin is delighted to be involved with the Rallying with Group B Trust on this spectacular event.
“Michelin has a strong commitment to motorsport, demonstrated by the fact that we are at the top of today’s World Rally Championship and we were also there during the glory days of Group B on such iconic cars as the Audi Quattro and Peugeot 205 T16. Therefore, it is only natural that Michelin is involved in this event which aims to recapture the feel of one of the most memorable periods in rallying’s history”.
There will be nowhere else on Earth I will be on these August dates!
