The Land Rover DC100 replaces the Defender in a few years, and I think it's fair to say that the designers have let their hair down!
Have you ever wondered how new car design concepts become concept cars and then, perhaps, production cars? Well, if you’re a little geeky like me, you’ll enjoy this video that quickly explains the birth, conceptualisation and build of the chunky, funky new Land Rover DC100. The off-roader that is set to replace the venerable Land Rover Defender in around 2015.
Many love the new DC100, some don’t - and they are mainly the old school purists who probably still own and operate the Defender they bought in 1978. This new DC100 is all about the future of the hard-working Land Rover and we can expect high tech fuel efficiency, eco-friendly and unexpected interior materials and, of course, the sort of chunky that’ll see Tonka toys snivelling in shame!
So, here’s the new DC100, from sketch to life-size clay model, and to rolling chassis with bespoke bodywork. Let’s hope the reality soon matches the concept.
