Skoda Citigo

The Skoda Citigo gets a couple more doors for easier access and comes with a promise of impressive inner space

The Citigo, Skoda's functional little subcompact, will be making its debut as a five-door model at the 2012 Geneva Auto Salon. It will be rolled out across European markets alongside the three-door version from mid-May.

So far, we can show you an early photo of the five-door version and tell you that the designers have gone for a strong safety focus. Reassuringly, the five-door Citigo won the top score of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. It will also be the first Skoda model to wear the brand's new logo.

We can also tell you there's a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine under the hood in two versions, a 60bhp and a 75bhp. The most efficient variant is the Green tec which has an impressive combined fuel economy of 69mpg and CO2 emissions of just 96g/km.

Apart from that, the only other information we can give you before the Geneva motor show is that it has plenty of storage including a photo and document holder, a bag hook on the glove compartment (just in case anyone is silly enough to mistake an indicator stalk for a handbag hook...) and a range of net holders. Skoda is also promising that this will be one of the roomiest cars in the subcompact segment. As soon as we have more information, we'll keep you posted.
