Sub-100g emissions for new Chevy Aveo

Yet another new small car is about to hit the UK market - the new, improved Chevrolet Aveo. For eco-conscious motorists, there will be two models with CO2 emissions under 100g/km. They are two 1.3-litre five-speed manual diesels. The 74bhp version has emissions of 99g/km and the 94bhp version has emissions of 95g/km. Stop-start technology on the diesels also helps improve fuel economy as well as emissions. Fuel consumption is particularly excellent on the 94bhp 1.3-litre diesel at 78.4mpg on the combined cycle.

Another new option to the Aveo line-up is a six-speed automatic gearbox. This is available on the 1.4-litre 99bhp version and it is the first time Chevrolet have added the option of an efficient six-speed automatic to a small car.

Standard safety features are plentiful - a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and anti-roll bar, and a torsion beam axle-mount compound link-type rear suspension keeps things stable. There's also electronic stability control, electric power-steering, six airbags, cruise control with a speed limiter alarm function, and anti-lock brakes. In the event of a rollover, the roof can support up to 4.2 times the car's weight.

Inside, there's a newly designed wraparound instrument panel, 653 litres of boot space, two gloveboxes, large storage pockets and three of the all-important cup holders.

The exterior has been livened up with raked bodylines, dual-port grille, a subtle crease on the bonnet surface and exposed round headlights with high-gloss black bezels. The wheels all feature the five-spoke design and are available in 15-inch steel as well as 15- and 16-inch alloy styles.

The new Chevrolet Aveo is priced from £9,995 for the 1.2-litre five-speed manual up top £13,615 for the top spec six-speed manual. The two six-speed automatics are priced at £12,375 and £13,195, depending in trim level.
