2012 SEAT Ibiza

The new SEAT Ibiza comes to UK showrooms in spring 2012, with a refreshed face and interior, and more frugal engines

Once spring has sprung, SEAT will be unleashing the new Ibiza on the UK market and it's looking better than ever with a freshened-up exterior and three body styles to choose from. Since its launch in 2008, more than 500,000 units have been shifted making it SEAT's biggest sales success. For those who are hankering for a new Ibiza Cupra, you'll have to wait a little while but the Spanish automaker does have plans to announce a replacement model for this powerhouse later in the year.

No doubt the boy racers who can't wait will jump on the sporty three-door Ibiza SC, those who need back doors may opt for the five-door model while for those who need a bit more room, there's the practical but still rather attractive Ibiza ST estate.

There's also a range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from with the most ecologically sound one being the Ibiza E Ecomotive with CO2 emissions of just 89g/km. The lovers of performance will like the Ibiza FR which pumps out 148bhp. The petrol engines start with a 1.2-litre 60bhp up to a 1.4-litre TSI with turbocharger. Fuel consumption is mighty fine too with the base model doing 83mpg.

An efficient DSG transmission is another addition to the list of options, adding an additional choice for drivers who like the convenience of an automatic with some manual fun for when you want to get more involved with the drive. This comes as standard on the 1.4-litre turbo, which does the 0-60mph sprint in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 132mph. There's also stop-start technology to further enhance the line-up's green credentials.

Touch screens are becoming as common as power steering and electric windows (remember when they were new and exciting and people were clamouring to buy cars with that newfangled kit?) and the Ibiza is no exception with the Portable Media System. This removable system includes a navigation system, on-board computer and hands-free device, and will be available later this year.

The Ibiza's new face features a trapezoidal grille, flattened proportions and low air intakes. The FR version adds to the already-sportier look with reworked front and rear bumpers. The FR has large fog lamps and integrated cornering lights as standard and these are options on all other models. Other light options include two types of halogen light, bi-xenon lamps and LED daytime running lamps.

We'll let you know the exact UK prices and specs as soon as they land in the TotallyMotor inbox.
