2012 Toyota Land Cruiser

The new, 2012 Toyota Land Cruiser keeps it cleaner in the dirt

It's still a rugged beast that won't freak out at tough terrain, but it keeps getting more luxurious each time they launch a new one - it's none other than the latest incarnation of the Toyota Land Cruiser and it's going to be on sale in the UK from March.

Prices are yet to be announced but Toyota have released pictures and some details about the latest Land Cruiser. The new look exterior isn't vastly different to the last one but there have been plenty of improvements on the technology front. The engine is a revised 4.5-litre 286bhp V8 turbodiesel that meets Euro 5 emissions standards and has 479lb-ft of torque. And just to make sure this behemoth gets some off-road action, Toyota has added a load of new technology to make sure that this is no Chelsea tractor.

Now, the Turn Assist function will no doubt come in handy with tight parking spaces on the high street, but it's also a great function for tricky off-road terrain. The awesomely named Crawl Control has seven speed settings for steep inclines and sharp drops. And because four-wheel-driving has become so much more accessible via technology, there's a Multi-Terrain Select function which sets up the vehicle for five different types of terrain with a simple switch. This is mated to the Multi-Terrain Monitor so you have a 360-degree view of everything around the car via four different cameras, as well as a rear view camera for reversing. Again, all this may also come in handy on the high street or anywhere where you might see a cyclist. There's also a tyre angle display function which will also make life easier on tricky terrain.

Variable flow control power steering will save your arms and make such a large car easy to drive and naturally, there's sat-nav with voice control, Bluetooth connectivity and an advanced multimedia system by the name of Touch Pro.

Prices are yet to be announced.
