Mercedes-Benz Project-X

The Mercedes-Benz Vito, powered by Pioneer audio equipment, pumps out a power station-shaming 30,000 watts of music power. That's plenty loud

Every year around Christmas it’s traditional for an employer to arrange a staff gathering of some description. These gatherings take place in bars and restaurants where employees of other firms may also be imbibing the festive spirit. Inevitably the two groups will merge and new relationships develop, the Project-X DJ Van is the love child of one such festive union.

With the assistance of Pioneer GB, Mercedes have taken the concept of the mobile disco and applied typical Teutonic engineering to the very best of their significant abilities. The Project-X is based on the Vito 122CDI Sport-X and boasts a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine – for good measure they’ve bolted on a turbo and intercooler too – together it all pumps out 224bhp and 324lb/ft of torque. Obviously nobody has told Mercedes a van shouldn’t reach 60 in 8.3 seconds or do 122mph. If your local plumber asks for a donation so they can buy one you should contribute generously and immediately.

As well as the staggering performance it appears Brabus have had a hand in this venture too. The tuning specialists have raided the cupboard to provide the sports steering wheel and leather gear trim, chrome sidebars, sports exhaust, chrome grille and tailgate trim to go with the metallic paint, tinted glass and colour coded bumpers. Yes, it’s a van but it’s possibly the best looking van you’ve ever laid eyes on and it comes with Brabus badges you don’t have to stick on yourself.

But the rumble of the V6 isn’t enough for the Project-X. Pioneer have played their part and supplied £25,000 worth of music system consisting of six subs and eight amplifiers that will pump out a mind-meltingly loud 30,000 watts of whatever you choose to call music on the two CDJ CD turntables and state of the art digital mixer.

According to Mercedes,

“Project-X not only sounds awesome, but it looks amazing too! The sheer power from this van, both from the engine and the sound system, is epic and needs to be seen to be believed. The machine is simply amazing.” Well, they would say that.
