New Shogun is black yet white

The new Mitsubishi Shogun Black. Seen here in, err, white. Priced from £41,999 for true mud-ploughing performance
The photo may show a white car but it is actually the new Mitsubishi Shogun Black. Also known as the Pajero in some markets, this latest Shogun has some new styling additions atop the current long wheelbase platform with a 3.2-litre engine.
So what's new then? The satin black styling kit includes 20-inch alloy wheels, roof spoiler, wing mirrors, grille, headlamp bezels, fog lamp surrounds, door handles and side steps. There are also five new colours for the Shogun Black - one of them is Diamond Black, a pearlescent. Or you can have the Shogun Black in Frost White (a solid), or three new metallic shades: Cool Silver, Orient Red and Granite Brown
Mitsubishi is keen to market this as a proper off-roader rather than a mere Chelsea tractor only fit for the school gate and the polo. For all your off-tarmac needs, this four-wheel-drive has 197bhp, 325lb-ft of torque and the ability to tow 3,500kg (which would come in handy when taking one's horses to the polo...). There's also electric power steering, a stability system and traction control, and a brake override system. This means that if the driver accidentally hits the brake and accelerator at the same time, the car will automatically go for the braking option.
But there is still plenty of luxury and quality kit to be had with the Shogun. Standard features include sat nav, a reversing camera, iPod connection, auto wipers, auto lights, privacy glass and leather upholstery. Illumination on the instrument panel has been improved and there's a new brushed silver finish for the power window control panels.
The Shogun Black is £41,999 and the metallics are an extra £540, and if you like what you see, here's our 2012 Mitsubishi Shogun test drive report.
