Citroen DS5

The Citroen DS5 poses with some iconic DS cars of old, under the wing of another beautiful shape

In the lead-up to the UK launch of Citroen’s new flagship family car, the DS5, the French automaker has been drip-feeding us pictures and information. Last week, it was the cinemagraphs, quirky pics of the car with added motion. This week, by the power of Facebook, Citroen UK has unleashed a series of elegant photographs of the new DS5 alongside a true icon of the aeronautical industry, the Concorde.

The album is called Citroen and Concorde and it gives us our best look yet at this highly anticipated car, one variant of which will be a diesel-hybrid with a top speed of 130mph. The aerial shots show off the panoramic glass roof while the rear shots show off the angles of the tail lights and twin exhaust pipes. Up front, the new lines of the front are clear, making this unmistakably Citroen but still a new design direction.

There are also a few shots that take a nod to Citroen’s design heritage with an early DS posing under the Concorde’s nose cone. The album has already attracted plenty of “Likes” - the new measure of popularity in this crazy online world - and now it is only a couple of months before we can get our hands on one for real and take it for a spin. (The lucky beggars at Top Gear have already had a play and voted it their Car of the Year, the jammy sods).
