The new, 2012 Toyota Prius gets even sippier with a new quoted economy of 134.5mpg, and British Gas will help you charge it
There will be a new Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid on sale in the UK next year and British Gas has joined forces with the badge to offer a special deal on setting up home charging systems.
The newest Prius will have an electric driving range of around 14 miles with zero emissions, can be used as a conventional hybrid and the lithium-ion battery can be fully charged in 90 minutes, a breakthrough improvement. Because of the EV range, the new Prius is expected to achieve fuel efficiency around the 134.5mpg mark and CO2 emissions around 49g/km.
British Gas will offer new Prius buyers a free site survey to work out the best way to adapt the gaff for charging the motor. The installation options include a dedicated circuit with a three-pin socket, costing from £275 and a purpose-built charger that British Gas described as “future-proof” from £799, a similar price to the EDF home charging system. There’ll be help with financing so that the installation cost can be paid in instalments and a cheaper off-peak charger so the car can be charged for less cash at night.
