Taking the new Scenic route

The new-for-2012 Renault Scenic and Grand Scenic comes to dealer in the spring with a focus on the frugal
The Renault Scenic has always been a very practical compact MPV but the new model has been given a facelift to take it above the level of the average soccer taxi. Orders will be taken from February 2012 and it is expected to be in the showrooms by March.
Up front, it’s looking sharper with plenty of gloss black and chrome detailing, standard LED daytime running lights and they’ve gussied up the rear lights too. There will be a new range of trims on offer inside and out and the top-of-the-line, new-look Grand Scenic will come in two new shades, Damask Red and Azzurro Blue.
Because it’s not just about the looks, two new engines will be debuted in the 2012 Scenic line-up - a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel, both offering a stop-start function to keep the nasty CO2 emissions down and stellar fuel consumption on the diesel at 68.9mpg on the combined cycle. CO2 emissions on the diesel are just 105g/km. On the petrol engine, combined consumption is 49.6mpg and CO2 emissions are at 135g/km. A 1.6-litre and 1.9-litre diesel will also be on offer.
Renault has also added a few new safety features including lane departure warning, automatic high/low beam headlights and Hill Start Assist. Other cool features include a Bose stereo, Carminat TomTom sat nav and live services for such things as traffic updates. It may well be the coolest thing at the soccer gate yet...
