Honda EV-STER

The Honda EV-STER is silent and deadly. A fast and dynamic electric car that actually earns its sporting stripes with a 5secs to 62mph sprint

Honda has chosen this week’s Tokyo Motor Show to launch their latest concept car, the EV-STER electric sports car. It certainly looks pretty mean and the two-seater, rear-wheel drive configuration could mean that electric driving is sporty and possibly a tad more affordable than, say, a Fisker Karma or Tesla.

The EV-STER uses plenty of carbon materials to keep the weight down and it has an impressive range of around 160km (100 miles). It has twin-lever steering and the driver can make adjustments to the power output and suspension. On the dashboard, there are meters as well as plenty of vehicle information, sat nav and internet access, which seems to be compulsory for new cars these days.

While we can’t yet take this new beast for a spin, we can tell you some of the important specs. Top speed is 160kph (100mph), it does the 0-62mph sprint in around five seconds and the maximum output of the 10kWh lithium-ion battery is 58kW.

Charging time is considerably shorter than some models which require up to eight hours or more for a full charge. At 200V, the car be charged in less than three hours and with 100V it can be done in less than six hours. It’s still not as fast as a trip to the petrol station, but here’s hoping that with better infrastructure, cars like this will soon be zooming around our roads for zero emissions motoring.
