The Nissan Juke Nismo gets more show and more go, for those that want a crossover with balls
It seems that we are getting a Nissan Juke announcement after every meal at the moment with the Juke-R’s development being documented on a stage-by-stage basis. Now Nissan is adding to the expanding Juke family with the addition of the Juke Nismo Concept, with plenty of new features for this popular crossover.
This concept car will be launched at the Tokyo Motor Show today and it features an aerodynamic new body, a more powerful engine, a lower stance, stiffer chassis and bigger wheels and tyres as well as some cool design touches inside and out.
On the outside, it is finished in pearl white with red highlights and the aerodynamics were perfected by Nissan’s specialists who also work on racecars. There’s a funky new grille and the bumpers, fenders and side skirts have all been revised for both looks and aero-performance. This has resulted in a reduction in lift which in turn results in the contact patch of the tyres being increased to improve grip, and this is further enhanced by the new 19-inch alloy wheels. In short, the car grips like an X-Factor reject to a recording contract.
Under the hood, there’s a 1.6-litre direct injection turbo petrol engine but there are no detailed specs yet announced - we may have to see if we can get behind one ourselves to test it out. In the meantime, we can also tell you the interior is a step up from the Jukes you see on the road at the moment. The dials are illuminated in red and the centre console has been shaped to resemble a motorbike fuel tank, complete with a metallic coating.
Here’s hoping that if the Juke Nismo becomes a production reality, it will be made in Sunderland’s factory where they are already producing the current Juke and flying the flag for British automotive manufacturing.
