The new Mitsubishi ASX Black edition adds some tasty leather and carbon extras to the popular crossover
Mitsubishi has launched and upgraded version of the successful ASX crossover, the ASX Black. Based on the ASX4, the main features include a satin black styling kit with 17-inch alloy wheels, roof, spoiler, mirrors, grille and fog lamp bezels all getting the car-noir treatment. Inside, there’s a spiffing black leather kit with carbon fibre inserts.
Despite being called Black, the seven colours on offer are Kingfisher Blue, Polar White, Cool Silver, Amethyst Black, Atlantic Grey and Orient Red.
Two Euro V engines are on offer with the ASX Black - a 115bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine with 114lb-ft of torque and a five-speed manual gearbox and a 147bhp 1.8-litre turbodiesel with 221lb-ft of torque and a six-speed manual gearbox. An electronically controlled 4x4 system is also on offer with the turbodiesel. We’ve test-driven the ASX in 147bhp, 2WD 1.8-litre turbodiesel trim, and it’s a very good all-round crossover with a pleasantly frugal nature.
Standard kit includes sat-nav, reversing camera, iPod connectivity and stability and traction control. Keeping the car economical, the ASX Black will also benefit from a stop-start function, variable valve timing in the diesel, electric power steering, regenerative brakes, low viscosity oil, LED lighting and low rolling resistance tyres.
The ASX Black is now available in Mitsubishi showrooms across the UK with prices starting at £21,099 for the 1.6-litre 2WD manual. The 2WD 1.8-litre turbodiesel is £23,299 and the 4WD 1.8-litre turbodiesel is £25,399. The optional service plan is an additional £450 for the petrol variant and £650 for the diesel variant.
