The all-electric VW Golf blue e-motion is looking to win the RAC Future Car Challenge for the second year on the trot
The second RAC Future Car Challenge, to be held on November 5, is set to be a showcase for the latest green technology from Volkswagen. The competing cars will follow a 57-mile route from Madeira Drive in Brighton to London’s Pall Mall and the winner will be the car that uses the least energy.
Volkswagen’s prototype electric Golf blue e-motion, which won the inaugural challenge last year, will be returning with two of them competing. Using an electric motor powered by lithium-ion batteries, the Golf blue e-motion looks pretty much the same as the new petrol-powered Golfs you see on the roads apart from the lack of an exhaust pipe. It has 113bhp and 199 lb-ft of torque and does the 0-62mph dash in 11.8 seconds.
The Golf blue e-motion is expected to go on sale in 2013 following an electric version of the up! city car.
As well as this eco-friendly Golf, the new Passat BlueMotion will also be talking on the challenge. This car is already on sale in the UK and its 1.6-litre diesel engine produces 104bhp. CO2 emissions are just 109g/km and combined fuel economy is 68.9mpg.
