Order books open on hotter Lexus hybrid

The TV advertising campaign featuring a tantalising Kylie Minogue shushing us was certainly tempting - and now Lexus is offering further temptation in the form of a new F-Sport grade for the CT 200h luxury compact hybrid.

Priced from £27,850 and with first deliveries in January, orders are now being taken for the F-Sport which offers improved looks, better handling and additional kit. Looks-wise, there’s a bigger rear spoiler, dark-finish 17-inch alloy wheels, flared side skirts, mesh grille, updated bumpers and funky new electric wing mirrors (auto-dimming mirrors, to be precise - this is what they’re now calling “electrochromatic” - there’s the word of the day). Inside, there’s a special steering wheel, aluminium pedals and scuff plates, black leather upholstery, cruise control, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and heated front seats, all as standard.

For improved handling (although the base model is no slouch when it comes to cool cornering), the suspension has been revised with a lateral front and rear damper system and sports-tuned Kayaba shock absorbers. (TotallyMotor Lexus CT 200h test drive here)

Optional extras include an advanced sat-nav, further electrochromatic fun on the rear-view mirror, rear view monitor, 10-speaker audio package, sunroof and parking sensors for the front and back.

But the big attraction of the CT 200h F-Sport, apart from Kylie Minogue, is the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions which match those of the CT 200h sister model. The emissions won’t attract any road tax at 94g/km and the official combined cycle fuel economy is 68.9mpg. In slow-moving traffic, it can run for up to a mile on electric power alone for zero emissions.
