Audi A4 DTM

It's the last hoorah for Audi's A4 DTM racer at Hockenheim this weekend. May she go out in style...

The hugely successful Audi A4 DTM will be farewelled from motor sport next weekend after a very successful record attained since its debut in April 2004 at Hockenheim. Since then, the A4 DTM has achieved 43 pole positions, 31 fastest race laps, 34 victories and five champion’s titles.

Finishing its touring car racing career where it started at Hockenheim, the Audi A4 DTM will be racing from October 21-23. Martin Tomczyk, from Audi Sport Team Phoenix, will travel to Hockenheim already crowned the DTM champion but it is still expected to be an exciting race with hot competitions from Mattias Ekstrome, the 2004 and 2007 DTM champion and Audi Sport Team Aby Sportsline in the running for the team title. “Rookie of the Year” has already been decided with another Audi driver, Edoardo Mortara, from Audi Sport Team Rosberg taking out that title.

New technical regulations mean that the 2012 touring car season will see the A4 DTM replaced by the A5 DTM as the approved two-door coupe. The A5 DTM made its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year and will be doing a trial lap at Hockenheim to show off what might be possible for next year’s race season.

Head of Audi Motorsport, Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, now has the hard job of sorting out the 2012 squad for the DTM season in the new A5. This is another reason why every Audi driver is expected to be pulling out the stops at Hockenheim next weeekend.

It’s the turn of the Audi A5 for Touring Car duties in the DTM series for 2012. Here’s the new A5 racer looking suitably mean
