Get a little Coupe in your life with Audi's entry-level TT now costing £24,070
The Audi TT sportscar range has been expanded as of this week in a bid to make this baby more affordable to more people. At the low end of the price spectrum is the fun machine that is the new 1.8-litre TFSI Coupe with Sport or S line specs, priced from £24,070 OTR.
This not-so-basic base model comes with a choice of six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission. The engine which used to be exclusively for the TT Roadster is now in this variant and it offers 158bhp and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Performance is respectable in the S tronic version - it does 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds and top speed is 140mph. Fuel economy is not too bad for these austere times either at 44.1mpg. CO2 emissions are at 147g/km.
Audi is now offering the S tronic transmission on more models with the 1.8-litre TDSI Roaster and 2.0-litre TDI quattro Coupe and Roadster variants now with the seven-speed option. These join the existing 1.8-litre TFSI Roadster, which is priced from £25,320 OTR for the six-speed manual. At the top end of the range is the TT RS 2.5-litre TFSI S tronic, a beast of a car, priced at £47,185 OTR.
Equipment on offer in the S line version has been upgraded to include 18-inch alloy wheels, lowered sports suspension, short-shift gearbox in the manual versions, S line interior detailing, xenon headlights and daytime running lamps. The Sport models include 17-inch alloy wheels, electronic climate control, leather and Alcantara combination upholstery and a Concert audio system with CD player and MP3/iPod connectivity.
Splash a bit more cash and you can get the Black Edition specs from £30,380 for the manual and from £30,150 for the S tronic. This spec adds 19-inch alloy wheels, a black styling treatment for the single frame grille surround and number plate holder, rear privacy glass for the Coupe models, rear parking sensors for the Roadsters, Bluetooth phone interface and an upgraded Symphony audio system, linked to a BOSE premium sound system.
While the engine might not yet be on offer in a hybrid, the lightweight body shell is indeed a hybrid - a combination of aluminium and steel in a 58:42 ratio for optimum weight distribution. This is teamed with McPherson strut front and four-link trailing arm rear suspension for a sporty driving experience.
