VW up!

The new VW up! gets cheeky good looks, plenty of eco-tech and an affordable pricetag in early 2012

The order books for the bargain baby of the Volkswagen range are now open. A tiny £7,995 OTR will get you the base model of the Volkswagen up!. The top-of-the-line up! comes in at a still-very-affordable £11,180. Expect to see the up! in showrooms from next spring.

The three-door, four-seater has tremendous fuel economy and the version with BlueMotion Technology has an expected fuel economy of 67.2mpg, CO2 emissions of just 97g/km, a stop-start function, energy regeneration and a very pleasing road tax exemption. All variants have a five-speed manual gearbox. Launched in its production form at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the VW up! will be available with two three-cylinder petrol engines as well as the BlueMotion Technology version. Adding the BlueMotion option will cost an additional £360.

Three levels of trim will be available - Take up!, Move up! and High up! - as well as a special edition, the up! black and up! white variants. In the second half of 2012, the up! range is expected to be expanded with the addition of a five-door model.

The base Take up! version has a 59bhp engine and the main specs include body-coloured bumpers, daytime running lights, front and side airbags, a CD/radio with AUX-in, rear ISOFIX points and 14-inch steel wheels.

Coming in at £8,970, the Move up! includes remote central locking, air conditioning, electric front windows, easy-entry seats, a height adjustable driver’s seat, variable-height load floor, 60:40 split/fold rear sears and body-coloured wing mirrors and door handles.

£10,390 will get you the 74bhp High up! and at this price, you’ll get heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake grip, electrically heated and adjustable wing mirrors, the Maps & More infotainment device, a choice of dashboard colours, front fog lights and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Rounding off the exclamation mark-happy range are the special edition up! black and up! white cars which come in deep black pearl or pure white metallic paint. There are chrome door mirror caps and door side strips, 16-inch alloy wheels, a body-coloured dash, special striped upholstery and carpet mats.

Other options include parking sensors, emergency braking, traction control, sports suspension, extra speakers and leather-look seats with eight different options packs on offer.
