The Citroen C4 Aircross comes to Europe in mid-2012, hoping to grab a juicy slice of the ever-growing compact crossover market
Citroen's C4 range is getting a boost with the introduction of the new C4 Aircross. It’s the French automaker’s latest foray into the compact SUV/crossover market.
It’s got the body of a compact SUV with new styling and Citroen's best technology and smart green credentials to boot. With two- and four-wheel drive variants on offer, it will be launched in Europe mid-2012 and in the UK towards the end of 2012.
The sculpted contours of the body of this five-seater add a stylish edge to a functional class of car and there’s a distinctive front end light signature that lights up by day and night with LED integrated into the vertical vents. It sits atop 18-inch wheels and the smart tail lights are inspired by the Hypnos concept car. The chrome compass motif is added to make it clear this is part of Citroen’s SUV line-up. Other nice touches include indicators added to the wing mirrors, light guides in the rear light clusters, a 442-litre boot, sat-nav and a reversing camera.
Dimensions are compact at 4.34m long, 1.80m wide, 1.63m high with a 10.6m turning circle for good manoeuvrability.
The four-wheel transmission system means it can be driven permanently in four-wheel drive mode with optimum torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. Drivers can manually switch between 2WD for optimum fuel consumption, 4WD for optimum torque distribution and Lock for maximum traction in rugged conditions.
When mated to the six-speed manual gearbox, the HDi 110 engine is a frontrunner in its segment for CO2 emissions. An automatic continuously variable transmission is also available and offers great fuel economy.
Prices and specs for the UK market have not yet been released.
