Hyundai ix35 FCEV

The Hyundai ix35 FCEV pumps out nadda in the way of pollution, and you can ride in it at the EcoVelocity green-motoring show in London next week. A guilt-free pleasure trip!

Frankfurt isn’t the only motor show that’s happening this month. EcoVelocity, the low-carbon motor show, is happening in London from September 8-11 at Battersea Power Station and Hyundai is using the opportunity to debut its ix35 hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (that’s FCEV for acronym fans) in Britain.

The ix35 has a driving range of 360 miles, a top speed of 100mph and it does 0-62mph in 12.8 seconds (but, let’s face it, you’re not going to be buying this one for the drag strip). It is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell stack that can operate at sub-zero temperatures and its only emissions are water vapour. Passenger rides will be available for the car that Hyundai claims is just as convenient as one with an internal combustion engine.

Hyundai aims to bring the ix35 to the global market within the next few years and test drives have already taken place in Copenhagen and Korea. Four European countries will also be using test fleets after signing a memorandum of understanding.

As well as the ix35, Hyundai will be showing off the i10 Blue and i20 Blue, their two sub-100g/km CO2 emissions vehicles. The i10 Blue has a 1.0-litre, three cylinder petrol engine capable of 67.3mpg on the combined cycle. Meanwhile, the i20 Blue has a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder engine and combined fuel economy of 76.4mpg. Both cars are exempt from VED and the London congestion charge.

The all-new i40 Tourer, due to go on sale on September 8 and the Veloster coupe, due for launch later this year will also be on display at EcoVelocity.
