GM and LG will be combining their creative sparks in the future. Katie Melua clearly approves.
General Motors and the LG Group are joining forces to design and engineer electric vehicles. This is an expansion of the relationship the two companies already have whereby LG is the battery cell supplier for the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera extended-range electric cars. LG has also supplied the battery packs for a demonstration fleet of Chevrolet Cruze electric cars which were used as official vehicles at the G20 Summit in Seoul.
GM plans to take advantage of LG’s extensive experience in all things electrical while for LG, this represents a diversification of the business breaking into the potentially lucrative world of providing automotive solutions.
Keen to continue on from the early success of the Volt and Ampera, GM hopes this partnership will mean customers get the best EV technology as soon as possible. GM and LG engineers will work together on major components for electric cars as well as vehicle structures and architecture. The plan is to create extended range electric cars that will be sold in multiple countries.
GM and LG have not yet announced any launch dates for their joint venture electric cars.
