The Maserati GranCabrio Sport lets the sky in, in style

Two months is surely plenty of time to save up £102,615 so you can bag yourself the new Maserati GranCabrio, no? It will be on sale in the UK in October so that deep-pocketed drivers can enjoy this well-received four-seater convertible.

It’s prettier than the Porsche Panamera and who knows when Lamborghini is going to make their four-seater a reality so if you’re in the market for a seriously high-end four-door, you may as well get behind the wheel of this stunner. We are still drooling over the black grille with as red-accented Trident and black-look headlights.

Designed by Pininfarina, the GranCabrio Sport was unleashed at the Geneva Motor Show this year and as well as looks that invoke a physical reaction, there’s more than enough poke for sluggardly UK speed limits under the hood.

More efficient than other Masers, this baby has an all-alloy 4.7-litre V8 that pumps out 450bhp and 510Nm of torque - that’ll be more than adequate for the caravan or horse box. The top speed is a speed camera-bothering 177mph and the 0-62mph dash takes 5.2 seconds.

Also helping with the 6% reduction in fuel consumption is the Friction Reduction Programme and a smart six-speed automatic transmission that shifts slickly thanks to MC Auto Shift software.

But far more exciting than fuel economy is the sporty Skyhook active suspension for a thrilling ride and the car is brought brilliantly to a halt with grooved and drilled dual-cast brake discs.

It will be worth dropping the roof even on a cold day just to take in the rich engine note, a tremendous sound achieved by a revised exhaust system that automatically opens the bypass valves when it’s in Sport mode.

Further adding to the overall sex appeal, there are black oval exhaust tips and 20-inch wheels. Inside, there are drilled aluminium pedals and you can shift it yourself with longer Trofeo-designed shift paddles. In a nod to the badge’s racing heritage, the GranCabrio Sport comes in a luscious new colour - Rosso Trionfale - a rich, metallic red inspired by the Italian national colour used on 1950s Maserati racers. Seriously, what more do you need? It’s 100-grand well spent...
