Jag’s stunning design future

The Jaguar C-X75 supercar goes on show in Clerkenwell this week, with loads of office lamps!
The cats may come from Coventry but until tomorrow, you can see the future of Jaguar’s design in Clerkenwell.
Jag is using Clerkenwell Design Week to showcase the C-X75 concept car, complete with sketches and clay models to show off the design process and an art installation created by the premium automaker’s design team.
The C-X75 is certainly a departure from the more stately Jaguar passenger cars, such as the powerful but still regal XF. It sits low to the ground, the headlights are dangerously flirtatious, it is one of the most aggressive shapes ever seen on a Jag and it is very much a supercar design.
“In some companies, car design is a technical, cold process,”says Hugo Nightingale, senior designer for Jaguar Cars. “At Jaguar, it is about emotion, artistry and craftsmanship.”
While Clerkenwell Design Week is all about the aesthetics, hopefully this poetry-in-motion design will also mean we will soon have the exact specifications of an awesome engine to go wit this head-turning stunner.
“It possesses remarkable poise and grace yet at the same time has the excitement and potency of a true supercar,” says Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director. “You could argue this is as close to a pure art form as a concept car can get.”
As well as the C-X75 concept, Jaguar has a selection of cars that are already in production on display in Clerkenwell. The XFR, XKR-S and XJ Supersport are also on show for everyone’s viewing pleasure. But you’ll have to be quick to check it out - the exhibition opened yesterday and closes tomorrow.
Hopefully, the C-X75 will soon become a production reality - as well as a staple of motor shows for the rest of 2011.
He added, 'Clerkenwell Design Week is the perfect environment for us to present the C-X75 to the design world and explain how its existence was founded on a desire to continue Jaguar's design philosophy of flowing lines, purity of form and bespoke luxury for years to come.'
The installation reveals insights into the car design process through eight 'windows' each measuring two metres wide. Starting with inspiration, the journey includes creating sketchwork, material choice and sculpting full-size clay models.
