Fashion designers and car makers have been collaborating quite a bit of late - we’ve seen Orla Kiely add her funky retro prints to Citroen, Victoria Beckham has been, er, involved with the Range Rover Evoque and now the Italian fashion house of Gucci has joined forced with Fiat.

The Fiat 500byGucci is an adorable marriage of two of the most stylish Italian companies around with order books opening for the UK market at the end of this month.

Prices have also been announced for the two Gucci models. The super-frugal, nifty little 1.2-litre version will cost £14,565 OTR and the award-winning 0.9-litre TwinAir will sell for £15,765 OTR.

This version of the 500 has been customised by Gucci creative director Frida Giannini in partnership with Fiat’s Centrol Stile.

If you want one, you won’t have to turn up to a showroom or ring a call centre - the car will initially be exclusively available online. By the power of the internet, customers will be able to configure their car to their specifications, order it from the factory, track the car’s progress as it is made, pay for it and arrange a home delivery.

This is not the first Fiat 500 special edition model that has been sold online - the limited run of Fiat 500 Pink and Fiat 500 Matt Black cars were also sold this way.

Elena Bernadelli, Fiat UK’s marketing director, says the car is aimed at “fashionista customers” who are after a “unique car to distinguish themselves.”

A quick look around most trendy London thoroughfares will reveal that there are already plenty of people who have snapped up a congestion-charge-beating, ever-so-cute Fiat 500 - but Fiat and Gucci will be hoping that a few more fashion-conscious buyers will see the benefits of an economical car that has upped the style stakes.

And here’s the Fiat 500byGucci… without the distraction!
