The new, 2012 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback is a very important European market car for Chevy. It needs to be good to attract buyers away from the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra
At the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, Chevrolet will unveil the newest variant of one of its most popular cars, with aims to bring even greater success in the sales charts.
The Chevrolet Cruze has already won the British and World Touring Car Championship and this new hatchback version will draw styling influences from the concept shown to visitors at the Paris Motor Show last September.
Featuring a sweeping coupe roofline and short front and rear overhangs, the new Cruze hatch is going after European hatchback fans that usually buy a Focus or Astra.
The top-of-the-range turbo-diesel engine is the same as the one used with the newly-launched Orlando, providing 163bhp with a standard six-speed manual gearbox.
Chevrolet managing director Mark Terry said: "The Cruze Hatchback will give us a huge opportunity in the UK.
"This year alone, we've got four major new model launches that will have a significant positive impact on our product line-up in the UK, as well as the Camaro to cast a halo over the rest of our range."
Earlier in the week, Chevrolet asserted that with a bold face, upgraded cabin and competitive CO2 outputs, the new Captiva aims to take the SUV sector by storm upon its release in May.
