A new hatchback car is to be unveiled by Chevrolet at the Paris Motor Show and aims to satisfy consumers looking for a more compact offering from the US manufacturer.

Following on from the previous model, the Cruze hatchback will build on the appeal of the saloon of the same name. As one of four new Chevrolets to be unveiled at the show in Paris, the company is hoping to bring value for money to those desiring a smaller five-door car.

The new model will be unveiled for the first time in the French capital on September 30th and will be directly challenging some of the more established competition, the firm continued.

Wayne Brannon, president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe, added that the potential for further popularity with UK customers is huge, adding: "Cruze is turning out to be a real success story. We are selling it in 70 countries around the world and it has recently surpassed the Aveo as our top selling passenger car nameplate globally.

It follows Chevrolet's announcement that it will be releasing the all-new Orlando, a compact MPV, at Paris alongside the Cruze.
