Holiday motorists 'must check their tyre pressures'

Driving on under-inflated tyres is dangers and expensive.
People driving to holiday destinations this summer have been reminded of the need to check their tyre pressure before they go out on the roads.
Up to 95 per cent of UK motorists could be driving on tyres that are under-inflated, according to Cooper Tire Europe.
Doing so compromises handling and lengthens stopping distances - a problem exacerbated by carrying extra weight in the car. It can also significantly add to financial costs through reduced fuel economy.
The firm estimates that the average family car leaden with luggage and passengers will weigh an additional 201kg.
"Apart from the potential danger to the occupants of the car, driving with underinflated tyres can land you with a fine and points on your licence," says Cooper Tire Europe managing director, Julian Baldwin.
A recent test conducted by What Car? magazine highlighted the considerable difference in stopping speed between premium and budget brand tyres.
