Drivers are advised to check their cars before travelling.
As many as 30 per cent of all roadside breakdowns suffered by UK motorists every year could have been prevented with some simple roadside safety checks, according to AA research.
Motor Codes director Chris Mason therefore says it is vital that drivers learn basic car maintenance, to protect themselves from a "holiday hell" and ensure they get to their destination.
Many breakdowns are down to things as simple as over-heated engines, under-inflated tyres and broken air conditioning.
Therefore, making sure that oil and coolant levels are in order, along with the air pressure in the tyres.
"Hot weather, heavy loads and long trips can place a significant strain on our vehicles, but the good news is that there are a number of small measures that we can take to ensure a happy holiday," said Mr Mason.
The recent Motor Trader Awards saw the top garages in the country named, with 12 of the best 16 being already registered with consumer champion Motor Codes.
