Twenty years of Lexus in the UK and look how styling times have changed. But you can still spot the Lexus DNA
Exactly 20 years ago this month, Lexus made its debut in the UK, providing a new luxury brand through Toyota with a single high-end model.
Back then, Lexus was offering the general public the LS 400 saloon, powered by a "refined and whisper-quiet" 4-litre V8 engine. The company believes that it was this car's popularity that spurred it onto greater things, and sales, in the UK.
Lexus said: "The doubters of the '90s - and there were more than a few ready to dismiss an upstart luxury brand from Japan - have been proved wrong and Lexus commands respect as one of the most innovative and accomplished car makers in the world."
The company now provides the UK with a range of four mainstream models, namely the IS, GS, RX and LS, as well as high-performance IS-F and ultra-exclusive LFA supercar models.
Lexus was also keen to point out that no other brand can deliver better service to customers, pointing to the independent annual UK customer satisfaction survey by JD Power and Associates. Lexus has been the top-ranked manufacturer, unchallenged, for the past ten years.
Last month, Lexus claimed that its new CT 200h delivers "class leading ownership costs" compared to its other main market rivals.
