The Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT4 - the gentleman's racecar
Aston Martin Racing has announced the launch of its new Vantage GT4 for 2011, based on the marque's V8 Vantage road car but tweaked-up with increased power and enhanced aerodynamics.
The 4.7-litre, V8 engine has been race-remapped to boost overall power and torque with to the new GT4 aimed to build on the success of its predecessor, which made its race debut in 2009. The 2011 car carries over key attributes from the road car including an aluminium chassis and base engine and suspension design.
Engine and aero upgrades are joined by a race-developed Bosch ABS and traction control system. Aston Martin explained: "This system has been specifically optimised by Bosch Motorsport for the Vantage GT4 to provide race-enhanced performance in both wet and dry conditions."
Aston Martin Racing has now built and sold over 80 Vantage GT4s since its launch and it has become the most successful car in its class, winning this year's European GT4 Cup as well as the GT4 class at the Dubai 24 Hours, Spa 24 Hours and Nurburgring 24 Hours.
From the front three-quarter view she's beautifully mean. Turning road cars into racecars usually enhances their looks, especially if they were handsome to start with. Lower stance to scythe the bends and carbon fibre aero-enhancing details all help to double the Aston's already top-draw drool factor
From the side view and we can really see her perfect proportions. Short overhangs front and rear, slightly raked towards the front end and muscles everywhere
From the rear and she's just so fat. But please don't take offence because that's a good thing. The new GT4 gets a bigger rear spoiler combining with a new carbon fibre diffuser to press and suck the car into the track
That grip-enhancing aero means more drag for the 4.7-litre, V8 engine to pull through. Aston have remapped this howling motor for greater power and torque, cutting the air and dispatching the bends. If you're going GT racing, is there any other car?
