Peugeot is celebrating another success this month after revealing that its 107 model has sold in excess of 500,000 units since launching the car in Europe in mid-2005.

The car manufacturer explained that the 107 has enjoyed immediate success and has not dropped in popularity since, as production volumes of the motor have remained on an upward trend despite all kinds of financial pressures on the continent.

It revealed that in 2006, the car's first full year of production, 101,700 vehicles were produced, jumping to 104,600 in 2007, 108,200 in 2008 and 116,100 in 2009.

France has claimed the lion's share of them with 27 per cent of sales, with Italy at 19 per cent, the UK at 15 per cent and Germany at 10 per cent. Additionally, its 7 per cent market share in 2010 means the Peugeot 107 is fifth in Europe's competitive city-car segment.

The marque added: "The Peugeot 107's popularity, along with its economical three-cylinder petrol engine, has helped Peugeot take a lead in low-CO2 motoring and now, with the introduction of a new Euro 5 engine across the range, emitting just 103 g/km of CO2, it is even more efficient."

Earlier this month, Peugeot celebrated once more as the 5008 was voted Scottish MPV of the Year by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers.
