The first official photographs of the Ferrari California have been published today, giving fans the chance to ogle the latest addition to the new generation of Ferraris.

It joins the 612 Scaglietti and the more recent 430 Scuderia as part of Ferrari's modern, 8-cylinder family. It also flanks the flagship Scaglietti in the prestige sporty Grand Tourer segment.

The California is designed to satisfy even the most demanding of owners, with excellent vehicle dynamics and a pleasurable driving experience. The new model will be available as a convertible with a folding hard top.

Both chassis and bodywork are aluminium, as with the rest of the current range. It will be powered by a new V8 engine, mounted for the first time in the mid-front position.

As Ferrari tradition dictates, the California will include a number of innovative features. Primarily, the 4,300 cc V8 engine features direct fuel injection and a "flat" crankshaft, generating 460 CV at 7,500 rpm.

The engine will also be coupled to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, boosting performance and reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The California will be capable of sprinting from zero to 100 km/h in less than four seconds.

Brembo brakes, featuring carbon-ceramic material discs, are included as standard, and the F1-Trac traction control system, which made its debut on the 599 GTB Fiorano, is also included.

The interior has been trimmed using quality materials by Ferrari's in-house artisans. The seats, steering wheel, instrument panel and infotainment system have all been uniquely designed.

The California will be unveiled officially at the Paris International Car Show.
