Skoda has announced the milestone production of its two-millionth Octavia hatchback.

The vehicle was a silver Scout 2.0 TDi and was rolled off the production line in the Czech Republic.

The Scout is billed as a more capable version of the Octavia 4x4, with raised ground clearance, protective body mouldings and a standardised equipment set. Twin chrome exhausts at the rear, 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and large spotlights are all included.

Skoda estimates 90 per cent of the Scouts bought will be diesels, giving 44mpg and a robust 320Nm of torque.

In total, the company has constructed 1,315,000 first-generation Octavia Tours since 1996, with 685,000 of the newer, second-generation models following since the market launch four years ago.

The brand has won a number of awards, including the 2007 Auto Express 'Car of the Year' in its Driver Power survey and being voted number one overall in Top Gear's customer satisfaction poll in 2006.
